PREFACE:

The book has been produced to make it easier for designers to calculate timber structures according to Eurocode 5 and to the Swedish building regulations. 

The purpose of the first edition was to meet the needs of higher education at our universities and institutes of higher education.

 There was no equivalent textbook for the calculation of timber structures designed for the fourth and fifth years of engineering courses.

The authors are active in the training of engineers at our technical universities and institutes of higher education in Sweden, for example LTH in Lund, Chalmers in Göteborg, Linnaeus University in Växjö, KTH in Stockholm and LTU in Luleå. SP Wood Technology has written a chapter on Structural systems for infrastructure.

Publication of this book will be accompanied by publication of a Volume 2with the title Rules and Formulas according to Eurocode 5, plus a Volume 3with the title Examples.

 All three books are published in both English and Swedish.All three books were financed, published and distributed by the Swedish Forest Industries Federation, Skogsindustrierna, in 2015.
